{"id":5337,"date":"2022-11-19T09:10:38","date_gmt":"2022-11-19T08:10:38","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.descubreparis.com\/?p=5337"},"modified":"2022-11-26T10:47:13","modified_gmt":"2022-11-26T09:47:13","slug":"the-best-creperies-in-paris","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.descubreparis.com\/en\/2022\/11\/19\/the-best-creperies-in-paris\/","title":{"rendered":"The Best Cr\u00eaperies in Paris!"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">As we get closer to what is known as the <em>Chandeleur <\/em>here in France (keep reading, we\u2019ll tell you all about it!), we decided to share what we consider to be the best cr\u00eaperies in Paris (at the moment), all of which are included in our recommendations when we design <a href=\"https:\/\/www.descubreparis.com\/en\/product\/personalized-guide\/\">Personalized Guides<\/a> for our customers.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">There are tons of cr\u00eaperies and they exist in various presentations: street carts\/stands, big, small, sit-down restaurant, modern, themed, \u201ctourist traps\u201d, and even a few special ones for connoisseurs. However, at Descubre Paris we believe the best places aren\u2019t necessarily those where the line is out the door and around the block, or the trendy ones. Foto \u00a9Descubre Par\u00eds 2020<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">First, we\u2019ll be going over a couple of things to get your mouth watering!<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Cr\u00eapes originated in the Brittany region of France; they are also known as \u201cGalettes\u201d. This depends on which part of the region you\u2019re in. In Upper-Brittany the galette is what is eaten as a main plate and cr\u00eapes are the dessert end of the meal. In Lower-Brittany they use the term \u201ccr\u00eape\u201d universally.<\/li>\n<li>Galettes differ from cr\u00eapes in their composition; they are made with buckwheat flour (sarrasin in French) which is then mixed with salt and water, they are also made to be thicker. Cr\u00eapes are made with flour, eggs, milk, vanilla and are spread thinner.<\/li>\n<li>When you\u2019re looking at a real cr\u00eaperie\u2019s menu you\u2019ll find they\u2019ll present galettes (savory) on one side of the menu and cr\u00eapes (sweet) on the other. Foto \u00a9Descubre Par\u00eds 2020<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<ul>\n<li>Galettes tend to have a square-like shape versus a cr\u00eapes classically round shape.<\/li>\n<li>Don\u2019t forget to pair your galette with cider! We recommend going for sweet cider (doux), although some may prefer a brut cider, which is dryer.<\/li>\n<li>What is the <em>Chandeleur<\/em> (Candlemas)? It\u2019s a religious-based holiday, inspired in the presentation of Jesus at the Temple and the recognition Simeon gave him as the \u201cLight of Israel\u201d. It is also associated with the Feast of the Purification of the Virgin Mary, observed with the lighting of candles.<\/li>\n<li>In France, Candlemas is observed traditionally with making cr\u00eapes; the origin of this dating back to Pope Gelasius I who had cr\u00eapes distributed to the pilgrims that arrived in Rome; although it is also said it is related to the Lupercalia in which wheat based cakes were served as offerings.<\/li>\n<li>The exact origin is unknown to most French people, however what they <strong>do<\/strong> know is the February 2<sup>nd<\/sup> is \u201cCr\u00eape Day\u201d, be it at home, with friends or at a creperie with a bottle of cider.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Alright, let\u2019s move onto our Top 5 Best Cr\u00eaperies so that you\u2019re all set for the Chandeleur!<\/p>\n<h5 style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><strong>La Cr\u00eaperie Bretonne<\/strong><\/h5>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">This is our all-time favorite, we absolutely love it! Not only are their cr\u00eapes delicious, but their galettes are also scrumptious, well-priced and the restaurant is decorated all over and gives you the sensation of being off in a little corner of Brittany. The team is overall friendly, and the best part is they have continuous service starting at noon and closing at 11 p.m. (23h).&nbsp;Address: 56 Rue du Montparnasse; 75014<\/p>\n<h5 style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><strong>La Cr\u00eaperie Framboise Passy-Trocad\u00e9ro (CLOSED)<\/strong><\/h5>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">This cr\u00eaperie is very basic, but both their cr\u00eapes and galettes are delicious, the prices are fair and it is beautifully located between the Trocad\u00e9ro and the Bir-Hakeim bridge. They also offer an all-day service until 10 p.m. (22h). This spot is ideal for hungry travelers that aren\u2019t sure where they should eat (bonus point: it\u2019s right close by the Eiffel Tower!)&nbsp;Address: 10 Boulevard Delessert, 75016<\/p>\n<h5 style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><strong>Cr\u00eaperie Suzette<\/strong><\/h5>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">A down-to-Earth creperie, located in the heart of the Marais. This place has never let us down. Their sweet cr\u00eapes are particularly good, and their salads (because they do have some on their menu) are quite generous. We also like their extended service hours, closing up at 10:30 p.m. (22h30); and the waiters that we\u2019ve had have always been quite kind and speak several languages.&nbsp;Address: 24 Rue des Francs Bourgeois, 75003<\/p>\n<h5 style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><strong>Breizh Caf\u00e9 Le Marais<\/strong><\/h5>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">This creperie is extremely popular. So much so that they have several locations in Paris (as well in other regions in France and even abroad!). We really like their menu, as they offer many good and different options. The only con is that they are generally always full, so we suggest making a reservation (if you are able to), queue patiently or getting there a little early to make it in! They are open from 10 a.m. to 11 p.m. (23h).&nbsp;Address: 109 Rue Vieille Du Temple, 75003<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/breizhcafe.com\/fr\/\">https:\/\/breizhcafe.com\/fr\/<\/a><\/p>\n<h5 style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><strong>Cr\u00eaperie Bretonne Fleurie de l\u2019\u00e9pouse du Marin<\/strong><\/h5>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Last but not least, the galettes and cr\u00eapes at this cr\u00eaperie are delightful and the prices are great! If you\u2019re in the area, we\u2019d say it\u2019s definitely worth the wait or even making a reservation, seeing as they open for two different services at noon and in the evening; and the restaurant itself is quite small, but beautifully decorated as if it were the home of a Breton sailor\u2019s wife.&nbsp;Address: 67 Rue de Charonne, 75011<\/p>\n<h4>That&#8217;s all!<\/h4>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Don&#8217;t forget to keep this list close by on your trip to Paris.
